Putting play on the map

Spring is in the air and it’s a great time of year to get outside! And it’s never been easier to find great places to play, thanks to the new playground-finder website www.playmapp.co.uk. After struggling to find play areas after having her own children, mum of twins Claire created Playmapp, to help everyone find free places to play, wherever they are – and with over 300 play areas in Cornwall featured, there are plenty to explore!Playmapp has put together a guide of 10 great play areas in West Cornwall to get you started...

  • Kimberley Park, Falmouth Park Crescent, Falmouth, TR11 2DL

There is a really exciting new playground in Kimberley Park, made out of natural materials. It features a scramble net, tangle logs and wonky steps leading up to a lighthouse tower, a challenging spinning net, wobbly belt seesaw, high tower slide, treehouse, sand play ‘dock’ with boats, jetties, bucket cranes and sand play hut, agility trail, toddler, flat and basket swings and plenty more! All set within 7 acres of Gardens, with plenty of space for a picnic and toilets on site.

  • Folly Field, Marazion West End, Marazion, TR17 0EG

A large playground with a seaview, let your little ones burn off steam on the play train at Folly Field! With multiactivity units for climbing and sliding, a zip wire and plenty of picnic benches it’s a great spot to have your lunch!

  • Land’s End Play Area Land’s End, TR19 7AA

Visit the most westerly play area in mainland England! Nautical themed play area made from wood with sand base (known as the ‘wreckreation area’) with play boat featuring climbing nets, lookout tower and spiral tunnel slide, sand pit, rocker and play house. Open only during exhibition hours.

  • Breage Park Higher Road, Breage, TR13 9PJ

Breage Park has great wooden play equipment including a castle turret with wobble bridge, multiplay units and plenty more, set within open green space.

  • Boscawen Park Malpas Road, Truro, TR1 1UE

Boscawen Park has a playground with climbers, slides, swings, springers, fitness trail and more, including an inclusive roundabout. There is picnic bench seating, a snack kiosk and seasonal visiting ice-cream van, with free parking in the adjacent carpark and toilets on site.

  • Trelawney Park The Praze, Penryn, TR10 8DL

A large playground adjacent to parkland, with a variety of equipment, including climbing net, swings, multiplay units with slides and plenty more.

  • Madron Playing Field Aldreath Road, Madron, TR20 8SU

A new play area featuring wooden adventure trail, basket swing and tower with slide.

  • Porthtowan Play Park West Beach Road, Porthtowan, TR4 8AD

Located behind the beach, this play park has a sandy base and wooden equipment in keeping with the seaside feel. There is a play unit with wobbly bridge, climbing net and slide, flat and cradle swings, climbing net and climbing wall.

  • Wheal Jewel Church Street, St Day, TR16 5LD

Get fit at the outdoor gym while your children play! Equipment includes air skier, hip twister and dip station. The playground has toddler multiplay units for climbing and sliding, springers, toddler swings, stand on seesaw, and more.

  • Heartland’s Adventure Playground Dundance Lane, Pool, Redruth, TR15 3QY

The biggest free adventure playground in Cornwall, Heartlands has a huge amount to entertain, with plenty to crawl through, climb over, slide down, ride on or hide under!
