Face 2 Face is a national scheme run by Scope and offers emotional support and practical guidance, to parents with disabled children in their area. The support can be tailored to people’s needs, and includes drop in Oasis groups, home visits or online and telephone support.The support is delivered by Face 2 Face volunteers. All volunteer befrienders are a parent of a disabled child, trained to offer emotional support and practical information and they understand what it’s like to navigate through the often worrying, lonely and confusing experience of having a child diagnosed with support needs.Scope runs Face 2 Face because caring for a disabled child can be tough. When parents are juggling work, household tasks and countless medical appointments for their child, there’s little time left for them. Parents often feel alone and isolated.Emma, mum of four from Redruth, is the parent of two disabled children. She struggled to cope with her children’s diagnoses until she attended her local Face 2 Face Oasis group. “It can be very isolating being a parent of a disabled child. We had no emotional support until I was signposted to our local Oasis group. Speaking to somebody who truly understands what you’re going through and can point you in the right direction for extra support is a huge help.”There are 17 drop in Oasis groups throughout West Cornwall.
